--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This exhibition is not an exhibition of art history on feminism. It is an act on behalf of feminism and also a contemporary art exhibition.

"GENDER IS NOT A PLAGUE, DEFINITELY NOT AN OBJECT OF PROVOCATION"
Date: March 08-31, 2009
Opening: March 7, 6:00 pm
Location: Hafriyat Karakoy
Adress: Necatibey Caddesi No:79, Karakoy

"Unfair Provacation"
exhibiton will begin at Hafriyat Karakoy, on March 7...

The act-exhibition curated by Canan Senol, will be opened on March 8th, Women's Day, gathering together feminist activists and theorists within and outside of contemporary art and professional artists working with feminist expressions.
The concept of gender, which is attempted to be tyrannized over by the government, will be analyzed from a feminist perspective by the exhibition participants including artists from diverse diciplines such as theatre, stand-up, painting, photography, sculpture and many more.
The feminist exhibition, which will be opened on March 7, is titled after the Turkish punishment law stated under the number 5237 and the title "causes that remove or reduce the fine responsibilities" that defines "unfair provocation reduction". This clause has existed and still exists as a clause that feeds the murders of morals, of honour, of chastity and that tempts people to use violance against women. Although the exhibition is titled after this clause that exists in the punishment law, its content is being focused on women in practical life who are taken up as an element of "provocation". Also this exihibiton is positioning the viewers as participants and is evoking them to think about all the political, cultural and social discriminations against women and start producing methods for counteraction.
The catalogue of the exhibition, which is edited by the art critic and journalist Aysegul Sonmez, is aiming to be an alternative platform within and aside to the exihibiton which will include various aspects from feminist art theories to women characters in Turkish Literature, women artists outside the exihibition and their works and quotations.
